GRADY WARD | SENIOR | CROSS COUNTRY, MIDDLE DISTANCE
Favorite Athletic Moment at Brandeis: Watching Alex Kramer and Mik Kern win and get 2nd in the Mile at Indoor UAA's their senior year (my sophomore). I was still lying down after winning the slower heat. With two laps to go (400m) Kramer was in last place, Mik was boxed. John (our coach at the time) was bellowing, the entire track was lit up with spectators. Mik and Kramer somehow made their way along the outside of the track, mainly in lane 4, to first and second place, with about one hundred to go. Watching them barrel down the back stretch, you could see the culmination of their friendly rivalry, as they pushed each other hard than any of the competition could have pushed them. It was awesome.
Favorite Academic Moment at Brandeis: Taking COSI 11A (Intro to Computer Science) with Prof. Di Lillo. It opened me to a whole new way of thinking of the world, and got me excited about technology, putting me down a road that eventually led to jobs, friends, romantic relationships, research, teaching assistantships, and babysitting Prof. Di Lillo's baby.
Favorite Athlete: Roger Federer
Favorite Quote(s): "MITCH MITCH MITCH MITCH" - UNKNOWN | "Get that paper." - Ryan Stender, JayZ
Why I Chose Brandeis: The people. People here are friendly, smart, kind: interested and interesting. Also quirky. Sit down and start a conversation with 85%+ of them, and you would make a new friend. We lead the nation in community service. We are elite but not elitist. I am so sad to be in my last year in this crazy and supportive community of absurd people, but I will carry forward dozens of friends that I know I will be friends for life with.
