There was no closer finish than what happened at the end of the women’s race at the UAA Championships in Franklin Park.
Two freshmen – Emily Bryson of Brandeis University and Khia Kuternbach of the University of Chicago – went stride for stride to the finish line. Bryson won by a hair in 22:03.12 – compared to Kurtenbach’s 22:03.44 – and became Brandeis’ first women’s individual champion since 2002.
It was also a big victory for Bryson as the women’s field was loaded with ranked teams. There were six top-35 teams in the field as the race got underway.
Now Bryson and the Judges turn their attention to the New England Regional Championships on Nov. 14.

UAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
RYAN STENDER adds an Indoor Athlete of the Week award to the two he earned during this Cross Country season. Stender, received the recognition after winning the 3000m at the University of Southern Maine Invitational this past weekend in a time of 9:01.02; his finish bettered the next competitor by 3.5 seconds.
ADAM BERGER earns his first UAA Athlete of the Week award after finishing second in the Triple Jump with a distance of 12.71m and third in the long jump, tying his indoor personal best of 6.17m at the University of Southern Maine Invitational.
UAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK & BRANDEIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
DOYIN OGUNDIRAN earns her first UAA Athlete of the Week award and her first Brandeis Athlete of the Week recognition after earning her second collegiate win at the University of Southern Maine Invitational in the 600m with a time of 1:47.60. She gaped the next finisher by 3.5 seconds.

USTFCCCA ANNOUNCES THEIR CROSS COUNTRY ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
It may be Championship season for Indoor Track and Field but awards are still being earned from Cross Country. Junior Maddie Dolins and Sophomore Mitch Hutton were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for their 2015 Cross Country season. Dolins and Hutton earned the award by having a cumulative GPA of 3.30 of higher and both finished within the top 25 percent at the New England Division III Regional Championship.
Dolins is double majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology. At the New England Division III Regional Championship she finished 29th in a field of 390 student-athletes crossing the line in 22:16.1. Dolins 29th place earned her All-Region honors - this is her second time earning All-Region honors.
Hutton is double majoring in Biology and Business. At the New England Division III Regional Championship he finished 41st out of 380 student-athletes covering 8000m in 25:45.2.

BRANDEIS STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
RYAN STENDER
Congratulations to Ryan Stender for earning his second Brandeis University Student-Athlete of the Week Honor for the week of March 2nd. Stender earned this honor after placing first in the 3000m at the UAA Indoor Championship this past weekend. On the bell lap, Stender took off and gaped the field after running at 29.62 - he finished with a time of 8:33.52. Congratulations to Ryan on a tremendous season!

EVAN SCOTT
Congratulations to Evan Scott for earning his first Brandeis University Student-Athlete of the Week Honors for the week of April 11th. Scott earned the honor after he placed first with a personal best jump of 6-7 in the high jump
at the Amherst Invitational. He is currently undefeated this outdoor season after finishing first in the Bridgewater State and Tufts Snowflake Invitationals. With that height, Scott has punched his ticket to the New England Division III, ECAC Division III and Open New England (DI-DIII) Championships.

From the UAA Sports Information website: The UAA Presidents Council established a program of All-Academic Recognition in 1998. Qualifying student-athletes are recognized at the completion of the fall, winter and spring seasons each year. The honor is intended to recognize the high level of academic achievement demonstrated by student-athletes who effectively balance their significant commitment of time, effot and energy in athletic endeavor with their highly challenging academic responsibilities.

UAA Athlete of the Week | WEEK OF APRIL 18th | EVAN SCOTT
Senior, Evan Scott earns UAA Athlete of the Week Honors after finishing out his regular season undefeated in the High Jump. Scott finished 1st at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College with a jump of 1.99m (6-6.25). He set his personal record the weekend before at the Amherst Invitational with a leap of 2.01m (6-7). Scott has qualified for the New England Division III, ECAC Division III and NEICAAA Championships. He is currently ranked 20th in the nation for Division III.
